Founded in 1987 and established as a Foundation in 2002, Musica Insieme is now one of the leading music societies in Italy. The Concerti di Musica Insieme season, now in its thirttieth anniversary, has established itself as one of the most important in Italy for the quality of the musicians and artistic choices, emerging as one of the programs with the greatest number of seasonticket holders in Italy. From the beginning, important artists have topped the bill (including Pollini, Sollima, Baremboim, Kissin, Lupu, Maisky, Zimerman, Gutman), as well as debuting some of the best talent to have risen to international prominence by winning important competitions.
With a strong commitment to promoting and popularizing classical music among the general public, Musica Insieme has also created highly innovative music programs, including: MIA - Musica Insieme in Ateneo, a season of concerts organized since 1997 in direct collaboration with the University of Bologna and aimed at students; Invito alla Musica, a progam of concerts for residents living in the province of Bologna, with a free return bus service to the Manzoni Theatre; Musica per le Scuole, a series of concerts for high school students, each prepared through a lesson-lecture at schools; and MICO – Musica Insieme COntemporanea, which has become a showcase for some of the best contemporary music through Italian and international premiere performances.
Musica Insieme first staged Baudelaire: I fiori del male in autumn 2014. Developed by the Foundation, the programme was the first of its kind in Europe to present all the poems of this masterful series. Translated from the French by poet and translator Nicola Muschitiello, the poems were read to the accompaniment of music loved by Baudelaire himself, played on the piano by Alexander Romanovsky. In 2015, to mark the 40th anniversary of the death of Pasolini, Musica Insieme organized the show Vorrei essere scrittore di musica – Pier Paolo Pasolini poeta dei suoni (I Would Like to be a Writer of Music – Pier Paolo Pasolini, Poet of Sounds) featuring a variety of musicians and other artists such as Brunello, Capossela, Marcore and Battiston.
All communication and press releases are curated by the bi-monthly magazine “MI”, the high-end publisher and cultural tour organiser. With destinations as varied as St. Petersburg, Madrid, Copenhagen, Berlin, Istanbul, Stockholm, Lisbon, all tours are geared to discovering more about the world’s cultural capitals and Europe’s musical heritage.
Since 2014 Musica Insieme organizes Varignana Music Festival, the first summer festival entirely dedicated to classical music in Bologna area.
